Pro­fes­sor Nacim Pak-Shi­raz is the Per­son­al Chair of Cin­e­ma and Iran at the Depart­ment of Islam­ic and Mid­dle East­ern Stud­ies at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Edin­burgh. Nacim is a gov­er­nor at the Roy­al Con­ser­va­toire of Scot­land and also at the Insti­tute of Ismaili Stud­ies.
Her work focus­es on cin­e­ma and visu­al cul­ture in the Mid­dle East, par­tic­u­lar­ly Iran. Her cur­rent research projects inves­ti­gate the con­struc­tions of mas­culin­i­ties in Iran­ian cin­e­ma, as well as reli­gious epics and their rep­re­sen­ta­tion in films. Nacim Pak-Shi­raz is a Nation­al Com­mit­tee mem­ber of the Aga Khan Foun­da­tion and a board mem­ber of the Aca­d­e­m­ic Coun­cil of the Iran Her­itage Foun­da­tion. She has curat­ed and been a speak­er and a jury mem­ber at film fes­ti­vals in Edin­burgh and abroad. .

Shalini Randeria

Shalini Randeria is Rector and President of the Central European University (Vienna/Budapest). Before, she was Professor of Social Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute Geneva, and Rector of the Institute of Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna from 2014 to 2021. She has published widely on the anthropology of globalisation, law, the state and social movements. Her empirical research on India also addresses issues of post-coloniality and multiple modernities.
